Great Ocean Road Home Page

The sea gets all the glory along the Great Ocean Road but only tells half the story of this spectacular part of the world. Those companion mountains lending majesty to the ocean are the Otway Ranges. They’ve been waiting 30 million years for you to come. You owe them a week.

when the Great Ocean Road loses sight of the sea past Apollo Bay, you’re in Otway country. The Otway Scenic Drive creates a circle past Cape Otway and Johanna, through Lavers Hill and Beech Forest, back to Forrest and on to Apollo Bay.

It takes two-hours non-stop to complete but at that speed you will have missed a week of memories.
When the Great Otway National Park was opened in December 2005, 103,000 hectares become a vast public amenity. The towns on the Otway Scenic Drive service the park and the good folk who come to enjoy it.

In winter a ring of waterfalls are at their impressive best. To see them all would take a day. Combine Triplet Falls with the nearby Otway Fly for a big day out. The Otway Fly Treetop Walk gives you a bird’s-eye view from canopy level of tree ferns and magnificent mountain ash, the world’s largest flowering plant.

Cape Otway alone is another day, with its lighthouse and station, and the award-winning Otway Eco-Tourism Centre on the same road. Stay overnight to see glow worms at Melba Gully.

At Castle Cove Australia’s oldest dinosaur bones were found where Antarctica slipped away from Gondwanaland. The Great Ocean Walk is at your feet.

Follow the Old Beechy Rail Trail on foot or by bike from Beech Forest through Gellibrand to Colac.
