Tales 28th May 2006
On Sunday, 6 members of the sailing club competed
in a Teams Racing event at Queenscliff yacht club,
along with 5 other clubs.
Our team consisted of Peter Geekie [captain /motivator]
Peter Bourne, Doug Williams, Andrew & Russell
Smith and the ever reliable Gary Millar. who was a
last minute fill in for Jeffers Richardson who was
injured playing soccer. Team supporters were John
and Chris Marriner.
The boats we were sailing were all Pacers with identical
rigs . The day started out cold and gloomy, but once
out on the water good fun was had by all.
A series of 5 short course races were held over a
period of 3 to 4 hours
Our first race saw us coming in 1st ,2nd ,and 3rd
- we were all very enthusiastic with our win . Our
second race was abandoned. Our team captain and motivator
Peter Geekie, whom we and the other teams were following,
ended up missing a buoy and we were all disqualified.
In our other races the wind dropped and though we
were competitive, we failed to make ground on the
leaders.
The members from Queenscliff and the other clubs
made us feel very welcome and a good day had by all.
Thank you to Pete Geekie who organised everything
for our club, and to Peter Bourne who provided the
entertainment at our camp ground and at the hotel.
The only low point was poor Gary Millar who desperately
wanted a pizza after we left the hotel but could not
find a shop open anywhere.
This is going to be an annual event and was certainly
worth going to.
Life is good be happy come sailing.
