Tales 19th November 2005
Saturday saw the running of our Crayfish Cup. We had
Fireballs from Warrnambool, 420’s from Melbourne,
our local boats and World Champion, Rohan Veale, sailing
his International Moth, which was the most amazing
boat – in and out of the water!
We were meant to have two races on Saturday but the
fresh westerly wind, with gusts up to 25 knots, meant
that only 1 race was completed. The race saw plenty
of capsizes, with boats going everywhere. John Marriner’s
keel boat was the best by far, leaving Bill Gross
in his wake all day. Well done to John and his crew.
Sunday’s races were a more pleasant affair
with the sun shining and a pleasant 10/12 knot southerly
wind. The Moth was the one to watch as it lapped everything
in the fleet. Our own sailors acquitted themselves
quite well and everybody had a great time over the
two days of racing.
Thanks must go to the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s
Co-Op for providing the crayfish as trophies, and
a big thank you to Peter Deppeler who provided his
boat and acted as start/finish line for the two days.
It was a big effort by Peter and his crew.
Thanks also to Chris Marriner and Sandra Skene for
their tireless work over the weekend, and to John
Lindsey and crew on the rescue boat.
A reminder – The Learn To Sail starts again
on Saturday.
Also at the same time we have a Try Sailing Day for
those who might like to have a go on a yacht , if
you’re interested come down at 10.00 am.
Life is good, be happy, come sailing
