Apologies for the last two
weeks missing Tell Tales – the miscreants have
been keel hauled. And apart from the damage to Miss
Molly, broken boom and ripped mainsail, and Tumbleweed
finding the bottom of the Harbour when running aground
near Interlude’s mooring, not much happened
in those two weeks.
On to last Saturday’s racing, a light Easterly
greeted a small fleet of 7 boats who ventured out
of the harbour into the smoke haze which covered the
State and was making for King Island. There was a
very choppy swell which together with the light winds
made the going very difficult for anyone with a delicate
to normal disposition. These conditions saw the two
cruising yachts, Interlude and Tumbleweed retire early
as did the Yngling.
It is great to see the Yngling back on the water with
Kerry Marriner jumping off Interlude to introduce
a new crew Susie and Angie to the joys/perils of sailing.
This left four boats, two Fireballs and two Flying
Fifteens, to battle it out in the trying conditions
and caused the course to be shortened considerably.
Matt and Gary, Champagne Jam,, with Geeks and Stewie,
Not Your Average White Boat, on the Fireballs had
a great battle for line honours with Geeks and Stew
just crossing first.
Then came the two Flying Fifteens, Town Bike, John
& Shayne, and Windswept, Lids and Leo, who had
a great duel down the final leg and finished after
an hour’s racing both at the same place. Way
to close to the finish buoy, with both boats claiming
right of way and neither giving a quarter, the buoy
was struck…….. and “discretion requires
that what happens on the water stays on the water’.
Thanks to Leo Di Cecco Plumbing for sponsoring the
Pre Christmas Series, and also to Rex & Mandy
for their continuing sponsorship of the Club Championship
series.
