News Letter - January 2008
So far the weather gods have not been kind to us with wind on Saturdays, so let’s hope for a bit of improvement from now on.

Hope everybody had a good Christmas and New Year.

Even though the wind has been light, we are getting a good turn up of boats each Saturday. Let’s keep up the good work. We are getting a start and finish, and results. Our handicapper has all relevant information, so if you need to know who is where, in the big scheme of things, Gary will show you.

It was pleasing to see the club rooms being used lately for Maddy & Lindsay Deppeler’s 18th birthday, and on Wednesday a few went for a sail with a bbq and refreshments afterwards.

A reminder to all that Bob Hansen cleans the club house on a regular basis, so if you use something put it away. Make life easier for Bob.

Suzie and Margaret have arranged with the bottom hotel to run a series of raffles in the bar over a period of a few weeks. These are on Saturday night’s starting at 5.50 pm. So far we have had 2 raffles which were a great success. There has been a roster distributed and reminders will be given on the Saturday at briefings.

Also great to see David Robb out on the water each week. Keep up the good work, David.

Our meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at C. J. Keanes’ meeting room. If you would like to attend, feel free to come along. They start at 7.30 pm and you enter through the back door of Keanes.

In an endeavour to keep members informed of what’s happening in the club a news letter will be sent out each month.

Even though we have had light conditions we have only missed one race for the year.
Last year, at this time, we were battling fresh and gusty w/nw ‘s .

Given the fact it is a busy time of the year we are managing 6/7 boats a week which is great .

The handicapping system has been put onto the web site and there is a copy on the notice board at the club. Also the minutes from each monthly meeting will be put on web site and a copy kept at the club house for those who wish to keep up with what is happening at our meeting ..

Item’s of interest to club members:

Suzie and Margaret have approached Charles from the bottom hotel and he has kindly let us run raffles on Saturday nights from 5.50 till 6.30 in the bar. Suze & Margaret have put together a roster so please call Suzie for any more info .

State titles although with limited wind were a great success, thank you to all those who helped in particular the catering crew Saturday’s dinner and Sunday’s bbq, a big effort by all. The club have long sleeved T shirts left over from the State titles. They are $ 10.00 each. If you want one please give your money to Helen .

Clean up Oz day is coming up on Sunday March 2nd.

Also great to see David Robb out on the water with the yngling, keep up the good work .

On a lighter note Peter and Niekas wedding went to a well organized plan as we know it would. Their day was perfect in every way with no doubt the best wind we had had for the year (that’s ok pete we forgive you - though some others might not!)

Also Randall and Mary Fitzgerald’s daughter, Tahnee, was married last weekend out at Skenes creek. Another perfect day weather wise, congratulations.
Neil Melville now has a trailer sailer, a 25 ft Noelex. Let’s hope to see it out on the water soon.
Christmas is not far away let’s hope for a bit more wind and a few more boats out on the water
Have a merry Xmas and take care
Russell
