News Letter - February
2007
G’day,
Just bringing you up to date on what’s been
happening in the sailing club lately.
At the last committee meeting it was decided to purchase
another Yngling to complement the one we already have.
The committee have been very much inspired by the
fantastic efforts of the all girl crew - Margaret,
Kerry, Suzie and Angie, and what they have achieved
with the newly christened “Sista Mermaid”.
The Yngling is proving to be an excellent training
boat capable of carrying 3 crew plus a coach. Having
a second boat will help encourage new members into
the club. The club has, at present, approximately
$10,000 in the bank and the expenditure of $4,000
on a second Yngling was considered good value.
Wye River Challenge It’s on again – this
Sunday 18th February - our cruise around the mighty
Cape Patton to Wye River. After last year’s
cruise to Wye and lunch at the Pub everyone agreed
it was a fantastic experience and should happen again.
The Wye River Surf Club are happy to help us get ashore
in their rubber ducks. I have been told that there
will be bands playing on the beach on Sunday (I don’t
think it is to welcome us though!) but the yachts
anchored off shore should add to the atmosphere.
Clean Up Australia Day. 4th March 10 am down at the
clubrooms, mark it on your calendar. It’s our
chance to do something for the area that we all use
and enjoy. Russell Smith will be on site with plastic
bags. It might help to bring your own gloves.
Committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday
of each month at C. J. Keane’s conference room.
These meetings are open to all members so please feel
free to come along, bring up any ideas you may have,
or just support your hard working committee.
BBQ after sailing There will be a bbq after sailing
this Saturday. If you could bring a salad it would
be appreciated. There will be a small charge to cover
the cost of the sausages.
Tell Tales A reminder to those doing rescue boat duty
that you are also asked to do the Tell Tales report
for that week. Could you please email it to Chris
at jcmarriner@bigpond.com or you could fax it to 52374237.
Could you please get it to Chris by lunchtime on the
Tuesday at the latest in order that it can be formatted
and sent to the News Sheet and the Otway Light.
Asthma Management At our last committee meeting Michelle
Cox gave a short presentation on Asthma Management
which the committee found very informative. We are
hoping to arrange for her to come to the clubrooms
one day after sailing to talk to the members about
this.
Raffle The Sailing Club ran a raffle at the presentation
of prizes for the Great Ocean Sports Festival on Saturday
night. We raised $167.00 from this. Thanks to Suzie
& her daughter, and Randall & Mary for their
good work in helping Chris & I to sell raffle
tickets. Leo will be organising a raffle at the bottom
pub soon so we hope members will help out there too.
Cheers
John
