NEW YEAR’S EVE
It’s on again, the New Year’s Eve get-together at the clubrooms. BYO chops & drinks.

LIFEJACKETS
As most of you would be aware, Marine Safety have introduced new boating safety guidelines regarding life jackets. So it’s either PFD1’s or PFD2’s for off the beach dinghy sailors, and PFD1’s for the yachts. The PFD3’s are no longer legal on either of the above.

LEARN TO SAIL PROGRAM
The Learn to Sail program continues to be a great success, and their final Saturday sail for this year saw the enthusiastic young sailors venturing outside the harbour and putting on an impressive display of their sailing skills. It has been very satisfying for all connected with the LTS program to see the enthusiasm of these young sailors. The club is extremely grateful for the help it receives from those parents who actively involved themselves in the learn to sail program. It has helped make the Saturday mornings’ program so much easier for Matt and Geeks, whose day starts at around 7 am.

SHORT COURSE RACE
This is a great opportunity to get out on the water and practice those starting manoevres, and also get a feel for the day’s main race. For the post Christmas short course races we hope to be able to involve as many young sailors from the LTS program as possible, with the challenge of open water sailing and the pre start manoevering this will be a great learning experience for them. So let’s help support this great initiative and get out there and give it a go!

APOLLO BAY STRUCTURE PLAN
This plan is now being put together and, as this includes the harbour precinct, it should be of great interest to all club members. I know it is study number 3, or is it number 4, and on the off chance that it’s not just a council initiative to reduce the number of unemployed consultants, we should all take a serious look at it and consider how it will impact on us, both as a club and as individuals. The structure plan will be released for public comment on the 23rd January and will be on public exhibition for 6 weeks until the 6th March. It will also be available on council’s website from the 23rd January. The committee will be making a submission on the club’s behalf so let them know what you think, or even make your own submission.

BRIEFING TIMES
The club now has a new airhorn which will be sounded at 12.55 so there should not be any excuse for missing the race briefing at 13.00 sharp.

NEW RUBBER DUCK (again)
The club has been successful in its grant application to Marine Safety for a new inflatable to assist with the LTS program and general club activities which take place outside the harbour. The Marine Safety grant was for $7964 which, together with the club’s contribution of approximately $3000, will fund the purchase of a new 4.2 metre inflatable, 30 hp outboard motor and trailer. As the club now has a growing number of boats, storage space is at a premium. If anyone can help in this area, please contact one of the committee.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Our monthly committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. All members are welcome to attend. The next meeting will be at Leo Di Cecco’s at 7.30 pm on 4th January.

MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETINGS
A copy of the minutes of each committee meeting is available in the clubroom. It is contained in a blue folder adjacent to the notice board.

Cheers, John.
