In 1999 Bruce and Marg Rossiter “left home”
in the city to begin a second career in the country.
By 2001 they had found their land, built a house
and planted their first vines, turning pastures
into vintages. The first was in 2005 and the second
was even better.
High rainfall, acidic and well-drained soils
make this an ideal area for growing blueberries,
that are hand-picked and sold at the farm gate,
Footscray Market and locally at the Gellibrand
Store and the NouriShed on the way to the Otway
Fly. Bruce and Marg have plans to make more
uses of the berries year round, but for now
the fresh fruit is available from January to
the end of March.
The Peveril Vineyard cellar door is in a shed
directly off the Colac-Lavers Hill Road. It
is built from local timbers by a local It’s
small and tasteful. The wines, like the berries,
are grown with natural nutrients and no chemicals.
The sole exception is the anti-fungal spray
used sparingly on the vines. Other than that
the grapes are the product of pure water and
soil. Small, tasteful, clean. That’s the
way the Rossiters want to go on this patch of
perfection.
The name Peveril is a tribute to Marg’s
three aunts, Peggy, Vera and Lil. The vineyards,
orchard and garden are a tribute to the earthy
visions and energy of Bruce and Marg. All you
have to do is take that small turn into their
drive to enjoy the splendid fruits of their
loving labours
PEVERIL WINES
Grown with natural nutrients, made by selected
specialists.
Pinot
noir - The Pinot is a smooth and
warming drop with low acidity and gentle tannins
from 9 months in French oak barriques. It has
developed further in the bottle and will continue
to improve with age.
Sauvignon
blanc - Bottled in 2006 it will
surprise. A well balanced wine with lingering
fruit and low acidity it is the perfect choice
to accompany Asian dishes and fish, especially
the more spicy dishes
Chardonnay
- Has developed typical fruit flavours again with
low acidity and tannins. The oiliness sometimes
typical of chardonnay is not overpowering and
the overall experience is one to enjoy with light
luncheons on a lazy afternoon
Riesling
- Continues to develop well in the bottle over
3-6 months with good acid levels for longevity
AWARDS
2008 - BRONZE for our 2008 Riesling (low alcohol/sweet) and our 2006 Pinot Noir.

loam over acidic clay acidic.
These factors combine to allow fruit to ripen

they maintain good acid levels for long term cellaring.
