It’s ANZAC today and it occurred to me how appropriate it was for me to reflect on the past few weeks I had spent travelling up and down the Great Ocean Road. As I sat down to watch the big game between Collingwood and Essendon at the MCG with laptop in hand I began browsing through photographs of my recent trips along the road. Then the haunting and unmistakeable ” last post” began. As I watched the ceremonious acknowledgement of remembrance I reflected on very connected and intertwined Great Ocean Road experiences and the ANZAC tradition was. ” Lest We Forget”

While driving to Apollo Bay a couple weeks ago we saw a group of cars and people with skate boards assembled on the side of the Colac Skenes Creek road. Much debate and speculation followed, were they really going to skate down this road. They did and posted a video.

There were horse events, farm animals on show on the oval, local produce, cakes, breads, preserves and crafts items on display in the pavilion. The highlights for me were “The Zoo Comes To You” who offered a first hand opportunity to get very close to some Australian wild life and the new show Dog Jump event. It’s amazing how these dogs tried so hard to perform to please their owners with their endeavour. If you haven’t been before I think it’s well worth making the time to drop in next year.

Tonight had the makings of a fabulous electrical storm so I went down to the Geelong waterfront. I missed the lightning shots but the night scape is always interesting so I took some anyway.

I was riding my bike on the Geelong waterfront and decided to have a coffee. While sitting at the table I noticed a Harley Davidson motorcycle with side car. As an ex motorcycle rider myself I always imagined myself having one of these touring beauties. As I was admiring the bike I was approached by the bikes owner he looked like a biker, a real gringo sporting a fluro jacket asking me if I was interested in a ride. Sadly I said no, but we chated about this and that and during the course of the conversation I discovered he had grown up in Colac, was a visual artist who had studied in Ballarat, loved Fred Williams, had worked in Western Australia in the mines for many years. After returning to the east coast to live in Angelsea to semi retire in a matter of speaking to do what he likes best, being a self employed Gringos Motorcycle Tour operator . Not a bad job, biker for hire.

I have been engaged by Rick and Trish from “A Bed On Beattie bed and breakfast” to take some photo’s of their recently refurbished railway carriage. When I first went there in the early 90′s it was home to them both and 2 children. A remarkable space to raise a family. Taking the photos and being part of the creative end game had its tense moments but it was a lot of fun. Trish is exceptionally well qualified to control all things interiors and it’s Rick’s primary role as the builder, to deliver. Modest as he is he assures me he has a hand in some of the critical aesthetic decisions like the relocation of a naked garden statue from the petite courtyard to under a tree in the distance.

I decided to drop in at the The Forrest Brewing Company for the first time today because I needed to receive a phone call at 10.30 AM and didn’t want to be caught without mobile reception. The wind was howling and on entering I was greeted with the smell of bacon and eggs, coffee and a familiar face from Apollo Bay. Cafe del Mar is pumping in the background. The space is open with high celings, concrete floor and big blackwood bar with a huge chalkboard menu behind. I ordered $4 worth of Latte and it was just how I like it – Hot. I spent 30 min there had my phone call and as Crowded House started playing I took a few snaps and headed off to the Bay .
