Fishing was great fun over Easter

Excellent weather over the Easter holidays has meant that plenty of people have been dangling a line around Apollo Bay. All the buzz has been over the large schools of Australian Salmon that have been sighted from Apollo Bay to Skenes Creek. While the fish aren't huge they are very plentiful and willing to attack just about any thing you throw at them. Masses of boats have been trolling and casting lures at the patches of feeding fish and it is a strange sight to see 10 or more boats fishing right on top of each other when there is such a large sea to fish. If you had no idea about fishing you would think they were out there having a party as everyone is jumping around, laughing their heads off when the fish jump all over the place and fight each other for your lure. It is great fun and a good time to try out some new lures or take the kids out and?let them catch a few fish or maybe even their first fish.

WHATS BEEN BITING - 15th April 2007

OFFSHORE
There are still reports of sharks out wide but they are not as prolific as last month. Some big Makos have been taken along with plenty of Blues all from 75m of water.

INSHORE
The King George Whiting are back in good numbers and some of the fish have been fat as pigs. Lee Ryan took 18 fish on pippis this week and plenty of other boats are reporting double figure hauls as well. Josh Lee took some big one from the rocks at Parker River as did Darren Gill recently.
Trolling behind the waves and reef out from the waterfall will put you onto the Salmon schools. Once you hook up trolling, stop and cast and the fish will keep coming.

BREAKWALL

Some Salmon have been taken from the wall but the beach has been a better option recently.
BARHAM RIVER

No reports from here, if your caught a few fish drop me a line and let me know.

WILD DOG BEACH
White and Blue bait have taken plenty of Salmon when fishing around night fall. The mouth of the river has been the most productive area but watch the boats to find where the fish are located.

JOHANNA BEACH
Plenty of Salmon and surfers (Rip Curl Pro) down here as well!
Keep a few for fresh bait after dark as the Gummies have been biting well when the sea is flat. Reports of six in a night have been common but remember that there is a bag limit of 2 per person.

AIRE RIVER

Bream have been biting well on prawns fished on the bottom. Keep moving around until you locate the fish as they have been patchy.

Sorry to everyone that emailed before Easter as I went away for a few days and didn't get to answer your questions until it was to late. Feel free to keep sending for updated reports or any area info.
