Warm Winter Words Book 2 A collection of writing from the Otways
Remember the collection of writings from the Otways that Arts Council published as a Warm Winter Words book in 2000?
We have been successful in receiving funding from the Shire & the Regional Arts Fund to do another one.
It will be of similar format but this time will include an editing process.See below for editor details.
Look through your writings or write something new and submit via our collection box at the Apollo Bay Newsagency (located under the news-sheet box) or submit by email to jgross@aapt.net.au. Deadline is Monday 27th November.

Community Arts Project Awaits Funding Outcome
We have just submitted an application to
VicHealth to fund 'Youthscape' - community artists will work with Youth Club users and the community to design and create artworks for the grounds of the Youth Club Hall. It will culminate in an opening celebration to coincide with Steiner & Permaculture's Spring Festival. A partnership between Apollo Bay Arts, Youth Club, Steiner by the Sea & Permaculture. Funding outcome is December.

Editor - Nadine Davidoff Bestelling author Michelle de Kretser once said that the excitement she feels when she is offered a book contract is not so much that her work will be published, but that it will be edited. ‘No one will read my work as carefully as my editor – not even my mother!’ she saidI
In offering my services as an editor to the Otway Writers’ Group, I aim to read each submission with care, respect and attentiveness. My approach will be to highlight the strengths of each piece, and to offer suggestions about how the author might develop their writing further, if they choose to. I will also look at elements that may not be working so well, and suggest how the piece might be improved and made more effective.
Rather than be prescriptive, I would prefer the process to be collaborative and informal, where I converse with the writer about their submission, using their thoughts and intentions for the piece and my responses to it as the basis for a discussion about the writing and editing process

Artworks Of Our Foreshore
In 1994, the Victorian Arts Council (now named Regional Arts Victoria), with whom the Apollo Bay Arts Council is affiliated, offered the Creative Village Initiative to regional communities.

Beginning in 1995, Apollo Bay was successful in the receipt of
Creative Village funds along with
financial support from the local
Foreshore Committee of Management
to target the foreshore Market site.

Colac Adult and Community
Education Inc was successful in
their New Work Opportunities
application for funds from DEET for the employment of 12 participants and a supervisor for the development of the foreshore.

This included the Creative Village Project and meant that the team employed could carry out the landscaping works for the site, enabling a group of the participants to sculpt poles under the guidance of John McColl, also part of the team of 12.

John guided artists and novices through the process of sculpting 14 poles, 5 of which he personally sculpted.
